I was driving home from the shops along a route I used to take almost every day.
As I looked out of the window, I suddenly noticed the landscape beside the road — rolling fields, open space, the quiet beauty of it all.
It stopped me in my tracks.
How had I never really seen it before?
I pulled the car over and stepped out for a moment.
This view had been here the whole time, twice a day in fact, every time I drove this road. Yet somehow I had passed it countless times without really noticing it.
It made me realise how easily we move through life inside our thoughts — planning, worrying, replaying, thinking about what’s next.
And when our mind is busy like that, we can miss what is actually happening right now.
It’s only when we pause, let go of our thoughts for a moment, and come back into the present that we begin to notice what’s already here.
The peace.
The stillness.
The quiet beauty of the moment.
